The college library remains closed during lockdown, but there are still several weeks in term. This is your reminder of the alternatives in place while you cannot access the physical collection.
Please plan ahead
There are lots of ways in which you can get hold of the content you need for your studies and research. However, all of them will take a little time, so please plan ahead and start looking for reading list books and articles as early as you can.
Ebooks
Please use ebooks whenever possible. In addition to the ebooks usually available, the Bodleian has reinstated the ‘Emergency Temporary Access’ to HathiTrust, as in Trinity term last year, now that we cannot get to the libraries. You will now see links to Hathi’s copies of books in the SOLO records.
Current members of the University can access these resources directly via the HathiTrust website using their Single Sign-On.
It is still not possible to access electronic legal deposit items outside the Bodleian libraries.
Scans
If you need to read just one chapter of a book, you should request a scan from the Bodleian. Everyone is allowed to request one scan every day. This service is free. The link to the scanning request form is in each SOLO record (find the ‘LibraryScan’ or ‘OffsiteScan’ buttons).
NB If an ebook is available your request will be refused, so check carefully before using up your daily allowance.
Purchasing of print books and postal loans
We may be able to:
- send books from the Regent’s Park library collection to you;
- purchase additional copies of books and have them sent directly to you.
But remember that the books might not reach you quickly.
For students in Oxford
I will be operating a Click & Collect system as last term, for any students who are local and who can come to college to collect books. We will need to arrange appointment times during my working hours (Monday to Friday, 9 to 5). Please place requests via SOLO as usual.
Books currently on loan
Books with due dates this term have all been renewed and are now due back at the beginning of Trinity term.
