Happy Birthday, Manny!

Nicky Crompton wishes Manny a happy birthday, and lets you in on her birthday party plans!

Lockdown can get lonely.

Each year, we celebrate Emmanuelle’s birthday with a day full of activity, raising money for Meningitis Now in honour of Antonia Bruch, a Regent’s student who passed away in 2009.

Usually this involves a big party in the quad featuring a race between Emmanuelle and her various tortoise friends from other colleges, live music acts, arts, crafts and baking. This year, while we won’t be gathered in the quad, we hope to celebrate as normal, albeit in a revised format.

Money will still be raised for Meningitis Now, but this time instead of Emmanuelle and friends doing the exercise, it’ll be us. Various members of College have signed up to do a charity sponsored run/walk/cycle – and you too can sign up, too, here.

Moreover, there will still be arts and baking – members of College are encouraged to get creative – perhaps (if possible) with a tortoise theme in mind. Please do send in any photos of baked goods or arts and crafts made to Marnie Ashbridge (by Facebook messenger or email) or indeed feel free to post on social media yourself on our Facebook page, or tag us on Instagram. For those who don’t use Facebook or Instagram, we’ll also be putting the content on a dedicated page on the JCR website. Once uploaded, people will have the opportunity to virtually ‘buy’ these, by donation on the JustGiving page – you can indicate what you have ‘bought’ on the page, but please note that such donations are not eligible for GiftAid; similarly you can sponsor those who are running/walking/cycling through donation on this same page.

SING IT TWICE. IT’S A PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY.

Content will be shared throughout the day on the exercise and arts festivities, across our social media and websites as linked above, though there are two live events to tune into:

11 AM: Tom Cunningham will be live streaming his turtles, Derek and Clive, race (the closest we could get to a tortoise race this year). This will be on our Facebook page. Unfortunately this won’t be going ahead, as Derek and Clive can’t find the motivation. Can totally relate tbh.

4 PM: The big event of the day: we’ll get the opportunity to wish Manny a happy birthday. This will be on Zoom, live from the quad – meeting details as follows:
